Have not blogged for aeons. That does not mean there have happened nothing but I´m just lazy. Lazy lazy lazy. And some other reasons also. F.ex I broke my camera last summer and have not yet bought a new one. I would not like to blog without pictures. But ok, even that is not the only reason with lazyness.
I have a couple of new intrests, or hobbys if you like it that way, but maybe I will tell more about those in the future. After bought a new camera.
But okay, thats all for this time, just wanted to make first of 2008.

First weekend in "Hiding-Cottage"

We were the first weekend in the cottage we hired from archipelago of Vaasa. The whole place was perfect, no other words to descripe my feelings. It´s around 10 minutes by boat from the quay our little motorboat is located in mainland. No neighbours near the front-yard so we have perfect privacy. So from now on we will mainly live in the cottage (exept the worse "bad-state-of-the-roads" season in the autumn and again in the spring for we do not have any amphibian vechile to reach it on those days...)
The cottage will come for sale next year and I am quite positive we will buy it if no major changes in our life occurs.

Getting Things Done

The subject of this blogging was brutally stolen from Mikas suchlike blogging (who in turn has stol... umm got the idea from some other blogger). My personal problem at the moment is that 24/7 seems to be a little bit too less particulary when 8/5 goes to my employee and around 8/7 I have to sleep AND there is too many thinks (I would like) to do. Last few weeks has been a quite a dance on the edge of the blade what comes to getting things done.
Now lets see, including happened so far;

The transportation sail of s/y Freija had a happy ending. There is still a few things to do with the yacht however.

I did mount the engine to the motor-boat yesterday and we launch the boat and drive it to harbour. I still need to;.

Install the remote control system (gas, gear)

Mount the wheel

I have no idea when I am able to launch the wooden row- / sailinboat....

Need the time for fishing. Baltic herring season is on its best at the moment..

Need the time to check and repair my bike for cycling from harbour to office and vice versa..

The shooting competition season opens a quite soon....

*sigh* And plenty of other things to do. A little bit too much with a little bit too less time....

Home Sweet Home

So we survived from our adventure voyage from Turku to Vaasa. We were ran into allmost any kind of weather during our trip; from dead calm to storm, from rain to sunshine. The yacht behaved very well and stable, I fell in love in her during the sail despite I was a little bit keyed up in the beginning how she will act with her new master.
Of course there were a couple of exiting events mainly on tuesday for we crave the speed in tailwind and did not reef the main sail in time. Then when we turned to crosswind we did not manage to reef safely anymore so we had to made emergency lay down for the main. Well, the jib carried us allmost at the speed of 6 knots in heavy wind so we did not miss the main too much. In last sailing day (on friday) we recieved the kind of request for "administrative assistance" from boat-police to observe the sea very sharply for there were a boat capsized in the area we sail at that moment.
But well, the voyage is over and the yacht is in her new home port and I hope we will meet the favourable winds with her in our shared journey.

The subject of this blogging has nothing to do with the time this is created but more that the chorus of that particular song sings in my head every time I think about the upcoming transportation sail. It´s gettin closer day by day and there is not really much more to go and we are in the sea. I hope I have remember all preparations we need to do before voyage.
I cannot blog myself from the sea but the CEO of Siipi Finland has promiced to update the (new) navigation category with log and short story every evening after I have gave him a short rewiev (or briefing) via mobile phone from the voyage. I really hope he will also do what he has promiced... Some pictures might as well arrive via mobile phone but that is something I cannot guarantee...
The engine for the small motorboat has been provided, by the way. We bought it from Kotka in the same time we were on our fishing trip. Hopefully we had some extra time next week after voyage to mount it so we would get also that one to swim...

Only one week and the transportation sail of s/y Freija will be topical. I really do not know what my feelings are at the moment, last autumn when we bought it I was a bit afraid with the thought I have to sail from Turku to Vaasa. Now when the time is near... I dunnot know. I feel a guite positive despite...
I still not know who will be in the final grew except the very near friend of mine had promiced to rice on boat. Worst case scenario is that I´ll not get any "old sailor" to participate and we have to sail by three (four if phylo is calculated...) of us the whole voyage. Or nearly whole. The post-owner has promiced to sail the first leg with us and teach the shenanigans of the yacht. I hope we will get rid of the archipelago of Turku within the first day for after that there is a quite open sea to sail and learn more. Fortunately my spouce is a very good navigator so there is one worry less to take care, I just need to keep the sails in shape and keep the rudder with the rest of the grew then.
We will travel to Kotka this weekend to fish a bit. It is allready a tradition for us to open the open-water season by competition in Kymi river at the first (or second, depends in where the 1:st of may is situated in the calendar) weekend of May. Well, I have allready open the season for this year but still it will be the "official inauguration weekend" for me.
And I will be on a little business trip on the beginning of next week but I´ll update the latest feelings about the transportation sail (and maybe something about fishing of this upcoming weekend as well) when I´m back.
KOT
Little update at 04.05.2007 10:08
Talk of the devil, just heard that we WILL sail the yacht by three of us. I would call this as an adventure...

About the situation of boats. Rigging is allmost done, only the riders for main sail are missing and some mountings needs still to be adjusted. The engine for the fibreclassed one is "in composition" for it will be aggregated from several old engines. The week 20 for the transportation sail for s/y Freija approaching very quickly which is good for I am about to be totally finished at the moment. Need the week in the ocean to get rid of the pressure(s) I have at the moment in my work and in my freetime .
This was shortly it at the moment.

As usual, the late winter gave place to nice spring weather after Eastern. Or actually this is not SPRING weather anymore, it is almost summer in these latitudes.
Was on weekend on the cottage to cleave the billets for the fireplaces. Two days in the handle of the axe (and of course the sauna in every evening) did very good to me, I can still feel how the toxicants, clustered during winter time, absolutely running away from my body.
Need to start to prepare the boats into launching condition this week, grind clean the surface, give a coating of tar and varnish and rig the wooden one and then I need to try to search the proper engine to the fibreclassed one. The sea is almost open so I am in a quite hurry at least with the engine for we need to reach the cottage we hired as soon as possible to start our ascetic, or not ascetic but our cottage life here in Vaasa area.
Then I also need to find out the place from where I can buy a fishing-right to keep fishnets in the area the cottage situated. Or actually need to find out in which "village" the cottage belongs so I can buy the correct common of piscary.

We Are The Champions

Oulun Kärpät wins the hockey champion of Finland last evening with clean 3-0 (it was best out of 5 matches and they only need 3). Sometimes the win is not important but the total humiliation of opponent. For me this was not just ice-hockey. This was personal. The other team was from northern-tallinn (helsinki), so no need to say more ´bout this issue.
I promiced the details of the boats we bought after I have pick them up.
Other one is a small motorboat from "golden seventies" (without engine at the moment, ´thou). Lenght about 4,5 meters. Despite the boat is not very large, it was made during the time they did not skimp from the materials so it is very stout and quite seaworthy.

And other one is "classical" wooden salt-water row- / -sailboat with about the same 4,5 meters lenght but with weight around 300 kg of which the keel is 100 kg. Very graceful and beautiful in my opinion.

Business-trip, Easter-holliday and late winter.

YEAAH! Again quite rush days since last blogging. Were on short business trip on last week in Sweden and after that was on four days Easter-vacation.

As usual, the late winter arrived into Finland in Easter time. It´s quite funny, despite there is no stable date of Easter and the time of it might vary around a month in different years, same thing happens every time. This particular year we had allmost summer weather and... Well, suppose you got the point.
We were on cottage (not the one we hired from archipelago but the one in countryside) couple of days on holliday time and there seems to be some woodwork to do, so next weekend there should not be any lack of activities.
We bought two boats yesterday but I will sit on the details until have fetch them to "home" and got the desent pictures etc.
Have to run now, KOT!

Ode to the life itself

Spring has arrived very early this year into these latitudes. We have had sunny, between +5 and +15, calm weather for quite long now. Yes they said this has been the warmest weather ever conserning the season and I do not doupt at all.

The sun and the light (or actually the sunlight) gives me the new energy and shake off the last remnants of winter torpor I had suffer in the dark times. The dark times are pure poison to me, mostly for I do not get fresh air (and sun) too much for in regular working days it is dark when arrive- and dark when leave from office and there is not too much to do in city in dark winter evenings.
We hired the cottage from archipelago of Vaasa. I blogged about the ascetic life in cottage on November 2006 and now we have took the first step. We just need to buy a new boat for the voyage from our "home-shore" to the islet for the phylo and my spouce but more from that when it´s more topical.
I have one wish (again) to the Blog Developer; Would it be nice if there would be the last blogging date in every area in the right frame. Now nobody really knows if there is something new in f.ex. the fishing blog, but if it would tell " 3 Fishing; 26 March 2007 " every "main page user" would notice that "aHAA, something new about fishing...

Was on vacation last week and visit in Lieto to see how s/y Freija hibernates. The aim is to make the transportation sailing from Turku to Vaasa on week 20 and there is still some things to do with the boat before launching. Nothing large ´thou, just a tiny purchasing of safety equipment, change the wc to match with new rules etc. But okay, maybe too early to talk about that so much, there is plenty of time to spend before that.
Murphys (or some others) law striked me straight into my face on my vacation, this time it made it with the shape of the camper. We spend the first night in the "middle of nowhere" on our way down and when the morning arrived the vechile did not grant to start. Well, we got a little help for I thought there is something with the battery but no. Pendix just did not went on. A tow start and the journey continued to the destination in where the same thing happened again in next day when we were about to start our travel back.
The original purpose was to spent one more night on the road and maybe a little ice fishing somewhere but we had to make it back with one jump. And guess what? RIGHT! We spent one more night in the cottage in where we keep up the camper between the trips, and next morning it started just okay with no problems. Damn you mr. Murphy!
But have a quite hurry time at the moment so that´s all folks, keep on touch.

I´m writing this in an aeroplane at height around 10 000 meters above the surface of earth on my second "jump" out of three ones of my one day trip from Vaasa to Stavanger (or actually to Bryne but to complete the journey in Norway end, I´ll use the cab) . Have I ever said I hate flying? Well, 6 flights within 2 days is not excactly what I would call as "fun" despite these jumps are lasting around an hour each, longest one one and a half and shortest 45 minutes.
Its quite "pitch dark" outside, with only lights of some houses (or villages?) on the ground. I wish they have happy and joyfull evening whoever they are.
Have drank couple of beers in airport of Vaasa and again in airport of Helsinki, and in matter of fact I have one beside this fucking laptop in this fucking narrow table of Embraer 170 (no hard feelings against Embraer, ALL planes have. This particular flying machine just happens to be Embraer...). Dunnot know If I have possibilities to drank one or two in Oslo for there is not so much "free" time between the flights AND the cost of beer is quite outstanding in Norway.
But thats all from the air, KOT!

The (ice) fishing season of the burbot (Lota lota) is about to begin one of these days. Or actually we started it allready on last week by sitting on the thursday and friday evening in the darkness on the icecover of the sea. Well, not more about fishing, there is own area dedicated on that but...
...that was prologue (and explanation why) of sitting in the middle of the night on the ice of the sea. I mean I am not about to freak out (more than usually) but the fishing gives me the perfect excuse.
When sitting in the darkness and watching the stars there is a plenty of time to reflect all kind of (blue) thoughts and clean the mind from all kind of crap that modern performance accentuated life might entail. Not more about my personal ones, but I strongly recomend that for everyone once in a while, raise up from your ass and find some place (from the fresh air!) you can be just on your own in the darkness, sit down and watch the stars.

Happy year 007. This greeting comes a little bit late but I have had some activity here so I have not had time to update...
Santa visited our apartment on 24.12.2006 and I do not know was it he with thoughts that he has gave us too much presents OR was it some impotent imbecile but somebody had broke the rear window of my car between 25 and 26 of December. Seeking the good things, it was not the only car on the same street with this destiny. What really pisses me off is that the insurance do not compensate for it reckon as vandalism and it is not covered by my insurance . And of course the inspection should have complete by end of this month so the cost of all refit would have cost more than the value of the vechile itself. So I bought a new used car last frday.
The transportation wing of Siipi company brought couple of sails to me for new year. I have to do a little modifications during the spring (narrow the main and arrange the riders to Genua). Also couple of winches was recieved with the same transportation.
Otherwice new year was peaceful for I had to be in the office on first of January.
This weather sucs! No real winter at all. Temperature hold in plus degrees (this morning +4) and no snow. I spent a weekend in the cottage so I was in open air quite a lot but otherwice I do not get enough fresh air for there is not so much to do at the moment. No ice, so no ice-fishing etc.

I suffered quite a flu started on friday evening and I´m still a bit convalescend. Not nice at all. I DID got sick leave for couple of days but this flu was so angry that there were no possibilities to enjoy the day offs...
On last saturday we did the home made kebab, döner version to be more specific. Originally I choose the recipe from the net among the not_so_many_kebab_recipes available, most of them commented by the experimenters f.ex. as "I cannot made it, the result was meat loaf" etc. The original recipe convinced me because of couple of details that I will also point out later on. Otherwice I took the recipe, twist it, smash it, etc. which means that this particular recipe is quite heavily modified what comes to raw materials. The original recipe (in Finnish) is to be find from here
So here it is;
Döner Kebab a´la Marko.
400 grams of mincemeat of a pig
500 grams of mincemeat of a lamb
(around) 1 - 1,5 kg of mincemeat of a moose
around 70 grams of aroma-salt (or herbal-salt. Hmm, I really do not know what this is in english...)
around one tablespoon of sea salt
around 2 brimful teaspoons of chili powder
around 2 brimful teaspoons of chayenne powder
around one decilitre of pepper-mix
around one brimful tablespoon of black pepper.
4 cloves of garlic
1; Crush the garlic into the large bowl and
2; Throw all other raw materials into the bowl as well.
3; Start to bind.
4; Bind
5; Bind
Meanwhile you´re binding I´ll explain this one a bit more in detail. You should put your hands into the bowl, compress the pastry with your hands, press it with your wrist... You should continue at least 20 minutes which means your biceps and shoulders will be in pain with lactic acid. At least if you´re standard office worker. You have to remember that we are NOT trying to do meat loaf, what we are DOING is kebab. You should try to "knead" all "air bubbles" away from the pastry. So...
6; Bind
Enough Binding? Are you sure? Ok then...
7; Take a large piece of aluminium foil.
8; Put the pastry onto the foil and mould the shape of "elephant leg" around 15 cm in diameter.
9; Wrap the "leg" TIGHTLY in the foil.
10; Check that the packet is TIGHT
11; Put the packet into wire tray into the oven heated to 120 degrees of celcius
12; Roast 2,5 hours.
13; Perforate the foil with fork. Around... 6 - 7 prick is enough.
14;Turn the packet pinholes (you just made) downwards.
15; Continue roasting...
BTW; You DID remember to put some kind of tin pan below the wire tray before you re-assembled the kebab packet into oven? I hope you did...
16; After 2 hours (or 4,5 total) turn the packet one more time, now pinholes upwards.
17;Roast half an hour
18; Wait at least 15 minutes before open the packet
19; Slice
20; Add your favorite accompaniments and enjoy...

Ancient Myths

On yesterday I was in theatre with my beloved one to watch the spectacle based on the life of Elias Lönnrot and our national epic "Kalevala". I have to admit I visit once in a blue moon in theatre, which is quite sad situation, but the lack of time... (explanations, explanations). This particular drama was constructed quite nicely, it was the mix of facta (The life of our national poet with its conflicts) and epic. Some might think that that kind of performance is... heavy... whic it also was at least in somebodys point of view for in interval some of the audience left away. But me like it. And of course it all ended like the Kalevala ends, Väinämöinen (the BIG guy of Kalevala...) kind of promiced to return from exile when the Kalevala would really need him again.
The REASON for the exile (will not explain it here...) gives me a good pons asinis (bridge of monkey) to allways current subject; Religion. First of all, I have nothing against religions or homosexuals so long that they (religion or gay) do not disturb me. And it is needless to say I have nothing against women (as long they do not think they are better than me JUST FOR THE REASON THEY ARE WOMEN). Second thing, personally I am not member of ANY religious community, I am agnostic. And third one, when I write about religion in this particular case I mean Christianity.
But... Okay, I run a little bit late to blog the first one, priesthood. I am not QUITE sure what the bible actually says about the women and the priesthood but at least some books banned it. And it´s good to write something about women to collect the anger from catepillar-tread-feminists (dunnot know if this is merely idom in the Finnish language...) *wirn*
But the second one. Homosexuals. That is strictly banned by the bible. Now I have heard that some celebrity-couples at least in USA are in some kind of marriage strike because homosexuals are not allowed to get married and also here in finland that particular minority (homosexuals, not celebrities...) are fighting louder and louder for this right. Here is some kind of paradox I cannot decode. Do they really think that one religion HAVE to accept something that are NOT allowed by the religion? I mean that religion is RELIGION. If one religion do not accept something IT DO NOT ACCEPT IT. PERIOD.
There is thousands of religions from which to choose, go ahead and choose the one that ACCEPT your way of life. Or establish own one f.ex like "The Church Of Good Wank" (which is by the way trademarked by one of my friend so you cannot establish one with that particular name... and I hope I will not be charged by using that in my blog ). But do not be so fucking stupid that you think you can require to re-write the bible. Or Kalevala. Or any other book that have been written long ago before you were born. If one religion based on some particular book, it IS based on that and it is YOU who just have to accept THAT.

We spent the independence day of Finland yesterday. Last year I blogged some of my thoughts and I´ll continue from that. On this week the parliament of Finland accepted the constitution law of European Union. They accept the law that can never come into operation. The law can never come into operation for the reason that they have reject that in France and in some other countries and most of the cases they have reject it by REFERENDUM! I will not write again about all the scam we had incurred for, you can read something from last year, but this particular "acception" was (again) all-inclusive mockery against the independence of Finland by our representatives.
The EU has started to annoying me in earnest lately. The reason for that is the issue with wolves of Finland. The FACT is that we have enough those animals in our country BUT for they have allready killed all from Central Europe and they do not have to fear those anymore in THEIR backyards they FUCKERS put us up in consideration of charges. They FUCKERS put us up in consideration of charges for giving shooting licence for couple of stalkers that endanger reindeer management as means of livelihood for some reindeer farmers. Shooting licence for couple of stalkers that endanger reindeer management AND put the way to school for some children in danger in eastern finland. OF COURSE they had the licence to kill the only bear happened to stray into Germany after aeons but we should not kill even the dangerous individuals in our country. OUR country.
Do they think in brussels and in Central Europe that they´re able to fence this country as some kind of zoo where they can visit to make some predatory safari during their hollidays and that we natives will be some kind of predatory farmers destined simply for their pleasure? WHICH reminds me one of the "nice details" from history; Hitler had the plans to relegate Finns as a sheepman to somewhere, cannot recall in where, after the war. Coincidence or continuum of Brown-shirt (or should we say in this particular case; Brown-skirt) politics?
Until further notice we DO have our own constitution law in force with the article of freedom of expression (Section 12). This particular human right has been topical due to plenty of reasons lately. Of course also in Finland there is some special osccasions that might confine, as example human relationships might affect ( the old joke of exhange of thoughts; man and woman went into the room to exhange of thoughts and man come out with womans thought...), the industrial relations legislation might as well... BUT the point is that those confines are totally uncolicited and selectable BY INDIVIDUAL. Of course somebody might think that the hunger is tried and tested intimidater but still it is not the law or governance that restrict.
What we have to remember that the freedom is the sword with two edges, it also entail the onus...

Moose hunting season for me for this year is over. The hunting group still continues for one weekend (and intependence day on wednesday) but I´ll skip the last days. No drama behind that decision I just spend my "free days" I have not use and will lead the weekend alone with my beloved one for it is quite long since we had possibility to do so. The hunting season continues for this winter however, I´ll go to hunt roe deers on couple of weekends on January, but more ´bout that later if there will be some success.
The "summer time" continues in Ostrobothnia with rain and with temperature from +5 to +10 degrees of Celsius. I do not know if the current weather is accordant with EU directives but it seems that we have the winter of Central European at the moment. I just hate this, I need some snow and frost.

Ghosts and seascapes

First of all I have to accentuate this; I do not believe in ghosts. I do like ghost stories and one of the latest books I have bought is "Pieni Kummituskirja" which is in english somewhat "Little book of Ghosts" includes the folktales about the ghost from Finland beyound the years. Albeit I like ghost stories I do not believe in them. However I saw one on saturday small hours.
We drove to cottage on late friday evening and made the bed to the front of the fireplace instead went to bedroom to sleep. It was the first time we do this despite we have planned that for long (quite romantic to watch the fire until you sleep...). But now I might be in the wilderness so back to the ghost story...
I awake from asleep (nothing unusual here, I do it every now and then) and saw that it is still pitch dark (no need to wake up yet) when suddenly... A light like from the matchstick or lighter... or perhaps more like from the candle... enlighted the figure of upper body... slim, bold, withered... in the window side of the sofa of the cottage... turn its head slowly from left to right to left to right like it would have search for something. Then as quickly as appeared the light flake out and blackness descended upon the cottage...
Now... I know that no supernatural exist. And that there is rationalization for the phenomenon (f.ex. daydream-effect, hallucination of sleepy brains...). But still... I saw the ghost which is not so common to me, I can only recall one case before this one. On that time I saw the spider size of two palm running across the road in the middle of the winter after I have been awake almost two day and night.
From the ghostly world to the cruise. Like I little bit suspected it did not ease my archipelago fever a bit. Nothing special in the cruise itself but the scenery in stockholm archipelago were quite nice as I expected. Or actually as I recalled. Well... as long there is a life there is also hope. And without dreams the life could be a quite boring. So I´ll keep on dreaming and meanwhile I´ll concentrate on my yacht, on good quality hunting, on good quality fishing etc. good quality life.

The clause in the title is from the finnish heavy metal band "Teräsbetoni" and can be freely translated as "you shall not go into woods". This song echoes constantly in my mind when I was on the hunt on saturday and sunday. The weather did made U-turn from winter weather to allmost summer weather on friday and most of the snow melt away during couple of days which threw up a quite heavy fog that oppressively overhung over the ground. I think "spooky" would be the right word to descripe the scenery we had.
Albeit the scenery were quite eery I felt totally confortable myself sitting in the middle of the mist in the middle of the forest. I think it is deep in our culture to retrieve the peace and loneliness from the shade of the woods. Or at least deep in MY one. I am not sure at all that f.ex. the peoples in... lets say our "beloved" capital would agree my opinion about this. But frankly. I do not consider the inhabitatns of helsinki as a "real" Finlanders anymore. Of course, juridically, they are but Helsinki (as a capital) are quite a melting pot of cultures. All capitals maybe, but the problem of the Finns; they are willing to forget our own rich history of civilization for they think they are living in "big international city". They DO absorb the fashions of Central Europe instead so they know f.ex. which wine suits with which food etc. but they do not have a clue what is e.g. "kiihtelys" and "tikkuri".
But back to myself (my favourite subject to write about *wirn*). I will be on the cruise next couple of days so I will probably be more and more "cottage-in-archipelago"-fevered at the end of the week. Well... Maybe one day...

Ascetical reflections.

We kept the weekend off from hunting and I concentrated on windfalls of my woodlot. Sincere physical work got my office worker muscles sore guite nicely and I was quite (physically) tired when the day was done.

In the cottage, once more, I wonder the situation of modern life even here in Finland. Or actually the paradox that you have to be rich before you can retire to lead ascetical life nearby the nature. I mean that f.ex. my personal dream is to move to outer archipelago somewhere in Kvarken.
Lets make a bit of calculations; First of all you need the plot. Lets say you´ll get one in the price... 30 000 EUR. Maybe. If you are lucky. Then a cottage/house fit for winter habitation. And I MEAN fit for winter habitation for in outer archipelago the winter times might be quite raw. So two "Varaava takka"* needed, at least one with oven. Cottage maybe around 20 000 EUR, fireplaces ~5500 with oven and ~3500 "normal" version. Then proper boat for transfer traffic to mainland, sailing boat is not... best possible for this purpose. At least not in early spring and late autumn in ice. So aluminum boat with engine ~30 000 EUR. Snowmobile for witnter transfer traffic... Etc. etc. etc. (and I have not calculate ANY of those out-of-pocket expenses (taxes, freighting (gottage, ovens etc.) etc) , but I think point is clear.
If I would be satisfied the ascentical living in inland or in the coast the expences would be, of course, a little bit less for not all vechiles would be necessarily needed, but still the need of capital would be guite... salty.

*"Varaava takka" means fireplace restores more heat by circular (loop) pipe ventilation; In other words, in normal fireplace hot air/gas/smoke goes straight up and out of pipe, but in varaava takka hot air makes a loop in masses of fireplace and releases more of it's heat into (upper) fireplace. There's also more mass (stones, bricks) to heat.

...the stupid laws of europe (also in finland) bound the capasity of semiautomatic rifles to 1 + 2 cartridges in hunting. SO _MY_ "dream-rifle" would maybe be;

Snow storm and small-frost

So the winter arrived into Finland. It come with heavy storm but unfortunately I drove into cottage in upcountry on friday evening so we missed the best part of the storm that rage here in Vaasa area.
Personally, I´m more Cocnac and Whiskey person than Rhum one but since of the old nautical-tradition we made a little investigations with Rhum on saturday evening for the next summer after-sail events and we found a perfect blend. I dunnot know if this is some famous blend (it is QUITE alike the hot rum toddy but...) for like I said I am not primally Rhum person. I will give the "full load" recipe. If somebody would like to calculate the "restaurant drink", go ahead...
You`ll need the vacuum bottle with capasity of one litre in addition of the raw materials...
0,35 litre of (dark) Rhum
12 lumps of sugar
4 brimful tablespoon of honey
Tea (I did use the blend of 3 different sort of tea)
Pour the Rhum into vacuum bottle. Add sugar and honey. Fill the vacuum bottle with a tea (do not use boiling one but let it chill down a bit. Not too much...). Close the bottle and turn around few times to mix the blend. Pour into mugs and enjoy...
This drink works also; by the fire when the storm or frost dominate outdoors, as an after-ski drink, as an after-hunt drink, as an after-fish drink etc. Perfect blend.

Okay. The trip to Paris is over. We landed to home in late evening of sunday and I just tried to recover from the flights yesterday. I hate flying. On thursday we had two flights and on our way home three short jumps so 5 takeoffs and 5 landings within 4 days. Creepy.
There were a few things on our journey I would like to complain about. First of all when we left from Vaasa... I do not know if Blue1 had leased the plane from Skyways for something but the minimum requirement (in my opinion) would be that at least one crew member could speak Finnish. Only English and Swedish were available despite the TRUTH that if only 2 languages required from stewardess those should be FINNISH and english when the plane flies from FINLAND. Shame on you Blue1!
Second thing was that the plane from Stockholm to Paris (SAS) was delayed over 2 hours and what we get was 50 kronor (around 5 EUR) "voucher". Not even worth of a sandwich in airport of Arlanda. For me it (the delay) cost around 40 EUR for our original aim was to take the train/metro combination from Charles De Gaulle to hotel but we were too tired for a venture and we had to content ourselves to take the cab. (On our way home the last flight was also delayed but only about an half an hour...)
Third thig was the behaviour of some french clerks when they realized we do not speak the local double-Dutch . When we tried to buy a tickets to the metro from the ticket window, the fucker turn away and start to talk and laugh with her colleague and I am pretty sure we would not have got any service if one helpful and kind native had not helped us out. Thanks to him.

It is good to write the negative thoughts first and then turn to positive ones. The hotel my French friend booked to us (La Manufacture) was a direct hit. It was small, charming... just the kind of hotel we wished for. And it situated in 13:th, far away from tourist purgatory of Paris. We spend the first night (not the one of arrival) of our trip to swan around the charming brasseries (street cafés) of that area.
The French (exluding the clerks) were more friendly than I thought. Of course it MIGHT be that they played a joke with us but that´s their problem if they did. I felt a very confortable myself in shops, street cafés etc.
The cruise in Seine, the sight-seeing... I will not write everything but overall the journey was success.

Ah yes, allmost forgot. How about the food? Well... The food was good, cannot argue with that. BUT not better that the food I usually make. Of course I allways have the best starting materials (without too much radiation) available so it is a little bit below the belt to compare...

A picture´s worth a thousand words.

Third weekend on the hunt (for this year) and enormous hind walked straight into my place on watch. 338 Lapua Magnum yelped and 300 grain Woodleigh soft nose brought that beautiful animal down unto its footholds (flight after impact; Zero meters. Tear from that all 308 faitful.)
Incidentally, my opinion is that we are not there (on the hunt) for blazing. We are there for killing. I do not mean that I will never make the bad shot, everybody will make one. Sooner or later. But if the bullet hits the "bullseye" the animal should not take the flight of several hundred meters. That is why I keep the flag flying for larger calibers. And if somebody is terrifyed for the recoil it would be time to think if big game hunting is correct choice or would the lace making be better hobby. But this is only my personal opinion...

Calf hunting and slippery jack stew

It is again the time of year when the moose hunting season is on here, nearby ultima thule. We started by calf hunting weekend last saturday and the beginning was promising even no calfs into my place on watch. There were rumours before the season that it would be very difficult times at the beginning of the hunt because of the warm weather, but that did not come to fruition. At least not in our hunting area.

The desiccated summer and autumn WAS affected to mushroom crop however, no chanterelles spotted from my "secret" mushroom areas. What we DID find was penny bun bolets, slippery jacks and griping toadstools. Nothing to complain with those anyhow, I did cook a fried calf liver with boletus stew accompanimented by picled cucumber and tomato last saturday. The meal was VERY delicious with finnish rye bread and finnish lager... So... Many regards to france and italy (and every other countries that has been panned the finnish food by their leaders...)

88 years. For nothing?

We spent so called "Independence day" yesterday in Finland. So happy birthday Finland. Otherwice in my humble opinion we have not been independent since 1995 when poiliticians bilked the arselickers of cities to vote "Yes" to affiliate the European Union. Nothing really wrong in EU thou´ but I remember very evocative the propaganda they feed us. "This do not mean we lost our money. This do not mean we join NATO. This do not mean this and that." Well, we lost our money in 1999 an now the fucking assholes (politicians) are strongly carrying us to NATO. And that would also be okay if... In 1994 when they bamboozle the major part of the citicens vote "yes" they promiced that IF someday we are about to change the currency they will arrange the referendumfor for that also. Bullshit! They just said "you allready choose Euro when voted yes for EU" In court that would be called as "fraud". In communistic republic of Finland this is called as politics. So my ancestors dread for nothing, killed for nothing and died for nothing in 1918 and again 1939 - 1940 and 1941 - 1944

We WERE walking on the graveyard with my other half yesterday. Despite I do not consider Finland as independent anymore I DO conceive Ostrobothnia area as independence as possible in these circumstances. It was very nice weather, just a little bit frost and enough snow to illuminate this otherwice dark season. The day off in the middle of the work week is not bad idea at all when normally it is dark when come to office and dark when leave from office.
Next weekend is last one we can hunt mooses, the season ends at 15:th. I have asked the programmer of this blog to add one section "Hunting and Fishing" into this so I could separate those subjects as independent sections. Like a "Fishing and Hunting diary."
Lets see if this ever will be materialized...

... there just have not been anything special to update recently. Moose hunting season continues, all my weekends are tied for that except the forthcoming one when me and my other half are planning another fondue parties for some other couples (I hope I remember to leave my mobile phone behind if we will heading to some restaurant afterwards) . Snow has been appear in the ostrobothnia area around a week ago but today it seems that most of it will melt away. So sad. K.O.T.

Summer fruits

And the summer weather continues... I am quite pissed off to this autumn allready. It is dark when arrive to office, it is dark when leave from office. The weather is calm during the day and the temperature has rut around plus ten degrees celsius. In evening it start to blow heavily, two days in a row it has shown 19 m/s in the wind indicator of the bridge of Raippaluoto. This means that angling of Baltic herring is totally impossible despite how much weight is added to the fishing line. This also means that not so much to do after office hours and I am getting very bored. Hopefully the snow and frost will arrive soon in this land of ice and snow...
Well, the weekend is about to come once again with the moose hunting hours. It is quite funny how the open air affects to office rat like me. Especially now when outdoor activities during the weekdays has remain to checking the intensity of the wind. One full day from dark to dark outside in fresh air and I am totally exhausted. But happy. And after weekend the tank is full for one work week in the office again. Or at least allmost. Not quite.

One of my very close frieds lives in Mexico and I was a bit worried about his destiny because of the storm(s). Today I recieve a mail that he is okay but the hurricane was very heavy with all the side effects the chaos induce into human behaviour. Despite the curfew in the area it has been quite a madhouse. Well, the most important that he is all right after the storm, I am quite positive he can take care himself now despite the turmoil.
I lost my bloody mobile phone in last goddamn friday. After we finished the fondue we took aim to the downtown and after first boozer I have no sign of that blasted cellular. And no. I was NOT drunk as cuckoo (old finnish proverb...) more like the "middle-european style" with just a little wine. Other thing I just cannot understand is why in heavens sake I had to bundle some communication equipment in my pocket when roving around with my other half. There should not be any important communication needs via phone when the most important person to me is with me. This cursed information community sucs...
UPDATE 01.11.2005 12:28...
Some obliging and honest soul had found my mobile phone and returned it to lost and found office. I hope I learn something about this, if nothing else then that I do NOT need the phone hanging around with me 24 hours / day 7 days / week. I´ll start my treatment for curing TODAY which means I am not available via phone in my freetime if I am somewhere (hunting, fishing, boozing (do not understand me wrong here) etc. ) with my other half. I have all the communication I need with me in those occasions...

Snow storm and moose meat

It was quite a snow storm here when I woke up this morning. Nothing if you compare it to storms in other side of the world recently but I look world in my own point of view of course. Even here the traffic was quite jammed for there is still a summer tyres on every second vehicle despite everybody should have known the winter is about to come whenever at this time of year. I personally not care so much about the slippery weather, but...
...I am about to pick up the first charge of moose meat this evening from the hunting lodge from countryside. About 120 kilometer drive one way. In this temperature they would not deteriorate but better to look than regret.
For the honour of first meat allotment for this year I´ll publish one recipe from my secret *wink* cookbook. They did eat this in CraterGames 2005 and nobody have died...
You need;
3 bottles of GOOD red wine
Roast (joint) of moose large enough for the diner (prepare this one a day before . You need a cooking oil, garlic and salt for the marinade. Put the joint into marinade and then whole package into some cool place )
(Salt), pepper (black-, lemon-, ...) , garlic, jalapeno, pepperoni chili.
Pepper- and garlic loaf cheese
Ready made sauce (concoction)*
HP Sauce
Barbecue Dressing (the taste of these may vary. Unfortunately.)
Cream
Cast Iron pot
Tinfoil paper
Cooking pot
Fireplace
Good company.
Open one of the bottles and pour a glass full of wine. Have a drink. Put the cast iron pot into cook's stove until it is hot. Meanwhile have a drink. Put the joint into the pot and sauté the meat all over (you do not need to wipe the marinade off but do not add extra fat to the pot). When the roast is brown all over put the pot into a fireplace. Keep the tiny non-stop fire in fireplace and let the time pass. Do NOT put the pot too close to fire, the heat should be gently. Turn the opposite side of the pot against the fire in every hour. Drink the wine but leave one bottle.
After (around) four hours remove the pot from the fireplace and enfold the roast into tinfoil paper ( do not economize the paper). Put the cooking pot into cook's stove and pour the juice from the cast iron pot into it. Wait until it boils and add the ready made sauce*, HP sauce and barbecue dressing along. Cook a while (not more than 5 minutes) until everything in pot are blended well and add spices ( peppers, crushed garlig, -jalapeno ,-pepperoni chili ...) I will not publish the amount of sauces, dressing and spices for everybody can add these by own taste. Again let the soup boil a while before open the last bottle of wine. Pour a wine (half a bottle maybe...) into pot and cook until the sauce is stiff a bit (from 15 minutes into half an hour). Add the cheeses (by your own taste) and cook until everything (cheese and sauce) in pot are blended well. At last pour the cream into pot, blend all the time and let it just and just simmer.
Open the tinfoil packet and cut the roast in adequate pieces. Serve with dressing (sauce), (french) potatoes and good red wine.
*dunnot know if there is a english word for this but in finland we call this as "fondi". Best one you get when make it yourself by cooking bones, chanterelles herbs and other spices into cooking pot overnight with plenty of water, doff the fat from surface and percolate the concoction. Ones they sell in stores will do as well...

For me it was time to come back from a short vacation and return to my office cubicle. Well, actually I have window place, in office for two, with a nice forrest view. But still. Vacation was refreshing even it was raining allmost every day and weather was quite chilly. I did NOT find any mushrooms, did not even tried. But I did fish a bit (after a long break with that activity...), visit in largest village shop on world and, overall, enjoy my life.
So not much new to tell with no pictures at this time.

There is one "desk drawer poet" in every corner I suppose. I´ll try to do my bit and also check if I can find any poetry inside me. Who knows if this will be a brand new hobby for me. Now lets see... The office cubicle is not the best possible source of creativity but lets try... There is a papers here and there ("child-prodigy-of- methodicalness-effect" strikes again)... computer... some other office devices... DAMN this is difficult! How about...

Bomb behind the bush I throw you this
Weapon of mass destruction for that remnant tetragon
...naah, too difficult for robust male at least in these circumstances. Maybe after third day in my cottage in the "middle of nowhere" I find the poetry. Or then not, but does not matter. I have plenty of other activities to bury in...

After tomorrow (or actually tomorrow evening) it is time to leave on two day (4 overall including weekend) autumn vacation. Just on time for my nerves start to be in quite finish at the moment for this rat race. 4 days in countryside with my family to enjoy the nature. And of course far FAR away from computers, these inventions of Devil.
"Anyone who does anything for money is a professional at whatever it is he is doing. That certainly does not mean that he is doing it well. You have only to look around you. An expert, on the other hand, is doing it well. Whether he gets paid for it or not is coincidental." (Jeff Cooper).
It amaze me over and over again (not-so-cleaver-country-boy I am...) how common is that the wrong person stand in the wrong position in todays business world. One in foremanship is the one who have least charisma of whole group, one in education/instruction is the dullest and tiresomest performer, the one supposed to be in contact to outside the work group is either most antisocial member (usually one of the workers) or the one with most patronizing attitude (usually "The Boss"). Well, the group as the leader, and anyhow the incidence of countary cases (right person in correct place) seems still to be a bit more general (40/60?)
I was a bit surpriced recently when checked the owner of some IP:s who has visited in my blog. The publication of those (IP:s) are illegal BUT so much I can say that if you want to get visitors to your page, use words like "rifle for special purpose", "308 enthustiastic", "magnificent 338 Lapua Magnum" (in picture, BTW) etc. As a common rule, write something about weapons and the succes is guaranteed. And for those who read this blog because of a occupation ( distinctly those in KGB* or corresponding agencies outside finland) ... FUCK YOU!
*KGB** is dead and buried so it is safe to use this acronym without lay bare the real ones but everybody should get the point what I mean...

Autumnal Manifesto

Before weekend it is good time to look at what is the situation of my short term plans. Currently I (we) have around 5 liters of rowan berry jelly, 5 liters of chanterelles and 20 liters of red bilberry (lingonberry) in reserve. I am currently working on weekends around the moose hunting "project" (I just wonder if I remember to take my camera in hunting in forthcoming weekend...). Next week I gonna spent 2 day autumn holliday so I might go to see if any trumpet-shaped chanterelles and cranberries is to be found in thursday and friday (outside the moosehunting days). No sea trout or roe deer yet but best sea trout season is just about to begin and roe deer... well... better luck after moose hunting season. I hope.
Dunnot know if it´s worth to add into my short term plans (naah, I´m lazy...) but currently I am wayting Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 to be installed into my laptop (hey, dunnot ask, too complicated to explain but I am not personally installing any programs into this PC). I am not any child prodigy of methodicalness so my reloading information is roving around here and there and when I need one the searching from racs and boxes (and desk drawers and desks and... got the point.) usually takes much more time than average reloading session for one shooting range visit. So I have a PLAN (sight) to program (the programming sessions would also refresh my old C (++) programming skills so two at one hit...) my own reloading log sheet to import all the data I collect for all of the loads. Even those not so succeed. Of course appetite accrue during eating (...) so the record should also contain the accuracy of each load, velocity and other important variables.
But that´s for that. The weekend is near and I will direct to my "hideout cottage" in countryside to enjoy the peace, silence and fresh air ( well, nobody is able to say that the air of THIS town is polluted but anyway...) So happy weekend all who read this (both two of you *wink*). Be back later...

Fabricate 2 rifles for "special" purposes

In this year Roe Deer hunting got rid of control of government and strike into control of hunters here in Finland which means that individual hunting groups got more responsibilities of adjust the population. This, however, hold a new terms from the rifle if it is purpose to get most of the hunting.
Now lets see... My target rifle bore to use 30-06 are a bit over sized for this tiny deer.
I just HATE the opinion of those 308 enthustiastic who says "Buy-308-you-can-shoot-everything-from-mice-to-rhino" and again I just LOVE to reload my own ammo. Other thing I like is to have a something different from "the standards" which give me quite open hands to make the decision.
The "dream" roe deer rifle should be;

-bolt action with removable magazine
-bore to use 6mm BR Norma cartridge
-phosphatized barrel, twist of 1:8 and length of 28 inch
-silencer adapter included (for BR-tuote silencer) in barrel
-fully adjustable aluminium mounted target stock, plastic or laminated wood
-fully adjustable trigger
-picatinny rail on the top of the action
-adapter for bipod
-weight around 5 kg
Another rifle I crave for is a pure sharp shooting / sniper rifle. Specifications are quite the same as above but the caliber should (of course) be magnificent 338 Lapua Magnum. And the weight could be near 6 kilograms instead of 5.
The scope perfect for these would then be NXS5,5-22x50 (or 56) from Nightforce with 0.1 mrad adjustment towers, MLR (Milliradian Line Reticle), Kill Flash and ZeroStop.

I travelled around 20 hours total yesterday from Tokyo to Vaasa via helsinki so I felt a quite marinaded in the evening. Nothing that good long lasting shower could not cure but still those marathon trips are murder. Other thing was that the timezone of asia is 6 hours ahead so yesterday was a quite long day for I went to sleep around 23.00 local time WHICH means I was awake around 24 hours and mostly on move. Well... I think that it is easier to turn the clock inside back into this direction that what it was to try to manage with timezone in asia.
Our hunting group will start moose hunting on forthcoming weekend. I still need to reload the ammo for my rifle on friday but fortunately I have everything ready in my reloading room. I think i have a budding gun-fever for I would like to fabricate a new rifle. Or actually TWO rifles. One for roe deer hunting and one for sharp shooting purposes. But more around those projects in the middle of the winter IF at all (maybe I should update my "plans" section...)

The Autumn is the time of harvest but also the time of large emotions. For me at least. After the long summer (which usually are far too short and passes by far too quick here in finland...) the weather turns to little bit chilly, the leaves start to fallow and corn lands are full of different agriculture apparatus ready to cut the fruit of the summer. It´s time to recollection and nostalgia.
I was on my (summer) cottage over the weekend. The phyloembryonic one had a heavy fever and SOMEBODY had to look after him and of course it was his mother *wink*. So it left the time for me to sit down to the beak of the dock and think around a little bit.
( <- Phyloembryonic one )
It is strange how nowdays it is nearly impossible to find enough time. I do not know if it´s this rat race or what but when I was young one I had one spincasting reel, around 10 lures and all the time of the world to fish. At least enough of it. Nowdays I have over 10 different casting combination, over 10 trolling combination, 2 fly fishing combination, allmost 20 ice-fishing combination, innumerable amount of lures, flys, jigs etc. and almost all are top quaility equipments. Only the time is missing.
Then when find the time from somewhere, maybe one weekend or so, it feels like it is over just after it has started. And "it" could be nearly anything. Meeting of the friends after a long time. Spent the weekend fishing or hunting or whatever. You arrive to somewhere perhaps on the friday evening and at the next blink of an eye it is sunday evening and time to go. At the junior times one weekend could last to eternity and besides it was fun all the time.
Okay but back from the dreams to reality. A brand new work week is about to begin. Lets all enjoy the treadmill and hail the civilized world that give us education and information and money exchange for ALL the time we have to give to it...

Never really keep one so dunnot know if that is true or not BUT I am about to sign that one. And it will not make it any easier to decide either to write in english or in finnish. Well, whatta hell. This is my fucking blog and I can mix the languages If I want to. So I decide to write both of languages debending how I feel at the moment I write. This first entry is in english (REALLY!!!???) so sorry all (ROFL) you who try to read but do not understand english (yeah, right!!!).
Okay, lets turn grave for a while shall we... So I, after a long time, decide to "come back" to www and start to keep some kind of blog (much easier that to maintain a www page when you have nothing to say to world, eh.) I will also update "about me" and "plans" sections some of these days (I think "Plans" section will be completed, ... or not completed but I will put my top plans at the moment in my head, during today) These (plans), of course, may and will vary debending of situation in life, season etc.
Now it is a very good time to collect the mushrooms and wildberries in reserve for winter. Hunting season is also about to begin, (I will go and lurk roe deer(s) tomorrow and sunday.) Also open water fishing season is still on, will be back with that someday I am sure... But thats all (folks). This is my first entry to my blog so lets see how this will proceed.
